Hi there! I’m Steve Gordon the potter, teacher, and co-founder of Art Escape Retreat. Art Escape started as a personal sanctuary—a space where I could dive into the world of clay and creativity. Over time, it’s grown to become both a pottery studio and a residential retreat, a place where people can relax, create, and find a sense of peace.
My journey hasn’t always been straightforward, but there were moments that brought me a lot of clarity. As a boy, I’d escape to a quiet creek, where the sound of water made me feel at ease. Later, while traveling in northern Thailand, I experienced the magic of a tropical rainstorm, watching water cascade over jungle leaves. These moments inspired me to make fountains that bring that calm feeling and natural beauty into my ceramic arts.
I hand-make everything from clay. Ceramic jungle leaves and ceramic bamboo, unique parts, etc. They range from delicate pieces to large, statement-sized works, all created with love and to create well-being.
Teaching is a big part of what I love. I focus on creating a warm, lighthearted space where learning about pottery is less about perfection and more about discovery and fun. I believe that art flows best when we’re relaxed, so I keep things easygoing and playful in the studio.
Art Escape Pottery Studio extends that same feeling to the residential side, inviting potters and artists alike to stay, connect, and unwind.
If you’re looking to dive deeply into pottery, take a creative retreat, or simply connect with alike-minded community, Art Escape is here for you.
