Things to do around Glacier National Park and Whitefish, Mt

“Wander here a whole summer, if you can. Thousands of God’s wild blessings will search you and soak you as if your were a sponge, and the big days will go uncounted…”
John Muir

Lake McDonald

When you come to our artist retreat for a week or more, you just may want to immerse yourself in your pottery, but getting away for a day trip is good too.

For those of you that want to explore Glacier National Park, It’s about 44 miles from our bed and breakfast and 32 miles from Whitefish, Mt.

The crystal clarity of this lake is absolutely stunning! It’s the clearest, cleanest water I have ever seen.

Fed by McDonald creek just above it and surrounded by mountains of green forest. The rocks along the bottom are just about every color imaginable. Tons of trails, with wildlife everywhere elk, grizzly bear, black bear, moose, deer, and squirrel! So serene, and calming, I think it’s a great place to begin your trip. People say it’s a bicyclist’s paradise. Miles and miles of trails. Tons to do and see.

You can rent boats at a couple of places on the lake for fishing or fly fish from the shore. Lake trout, bass, rainbow trout, pike. It’s a nice day trip from here. Highly recommended.
